Goals, interrupted? This month’s starry lineup pulls you in two dueling directions, as the planets crowd into both your career sector and your relationship house, then proceed to compete for your attention. Well, Crab, at least you won’t be lonely at the top. But you might get distracted along the way, especially given your caretaking nature.

April could shower you with professional opportunities, thanks to the Sun’s annual visit to Aries and your tenth house of ambition, long-term goals and public image. With el Sol at the top of your chart, you’ve got your eye on some rather specific aims, and you’d be wise to carve out focused time for those.

Hang a “Do not disturb” sign and plop yourself into a distraction-free zone where you can be left alone to get things DONE. If you’re job-hunting or looking to spread the word about your offerings, put your best face forward with new headshots or a polished profile. Either present yourself in the best possible light or don’t go public yet.

Staying on top of your game could be challenging in the first half of April. Mercury—the planet of communication, technology and travel—is in its signal-scrambling retrograde phase from March 22 to April 15, which can cause misunderstandings to run rampant. You may need to untangle some crossed wires or revise your plans before any big reveals.

With Mercury going rogue in your career sector, back up your work regularly (cloud storage is NOT a “luxury”) and make sure your colleagues are all on the same page before plowing ahead. If you’re thinking of investing in new office equipment or upgrading your technology, wait until the second half of the month.

The silver lining? On April 15, just as Mercury turns direct (forward), the year’s only Aries new moon lands in your career corner, sparking a fresh six-month cycle of ambitious opportunity.

You could have a major a-ha moment on April 18, when the Sun and innovator Uranus hold their annual meetup in Aries, filling you with the courage and confidence to share one of your more “radical” ideas. If you’ve been putting off a big change or hiding out in that Cancer comfort zone, you’ll get yanked out by a jolt of irresistible motivation.

But you’ll have to navigate a cosmic counterforce all month long, thanks to a heavenly triumvirate of motivator Mars, structured Saturn and transformational Pluto is in Capricorn and your seventh house of committed partnerships. Just as you try to focus on your career path, your most important relationships will become equally active and intense.

Mars only visits each sign every two years, and it’s in Capricorn from March 17 until May 16. Mars accelerates the pace, and its transits can serve up equal amounts of excitement and stress. On the downside, you may feel like everyone is demanding your time and attention this month.

Bosses and clients all want it done yesterday, or they won’t stop blowing up your Inbox with requests. People will be more argumentative—though with #nofilter Mars driving up assertiveness, at least you’ll get things out into the open. The best part: A budding attraction or business collaboration could heat up fast.

Meantime, cautious Saturn is ALSO in Capricorn for the next two years, bringing a completely opposite energy to the mix. If Mars is the accelerator, Saturn is the brake. This month, you could run hot and cold, which could sow all kinds of confusion. And with shadowy Pluto in Capricorn as well (a longer transit, spanning from 2008 to 2024), you could get a bit obsessive about a certain relationship. Whether it’s a romantic partner, a close family member or a business ally, this bond needs your attention—and things could get intense!

Cancer, if you can slow down, you’ll discover that there IS a way to dive in and explore possibilities without promising something you don’t want to deliver. After all, you’re going through your own process and may be unsure what YOU even want. In love and business especially, try before you buy.

Otherwise, you might find yourself in the midst of what coach Lois Barth calls a “crush and burn”—where you rush into an arrangement thinking it’s a perfect match only to discover that you’re NOT on the same page after all. Don’t beat yourself up (or banish the other person) if things don’t work out. At least you made a genuine attempt instead of staying in your self-protective shell.

In the second half of the month, Saturn and Pluto will slow into their annual retrogrades, which could prompt you to take a big step back or return to the drawing board before making things official.

For some partnerships, a trial separation or long-overdue split could loom. Can you part ways amicably? With heavyweight Saturn and powermonger Pluto involved, the answer is a tentative yes—meaning while it IS possible, it will take discipline and dedication to pull off.

Stalwart Saturn makes the first U-turn, taking a four-month reversal from April 17 to September 6. During this time, you may decide to put up stronger boundaries or possibly take some physical distance from a relationship.

A business deal could get back-burnered as you recognize a need for more research and development. Saturn rules the wisdom of time, so don’t rush! Even if Mars makes you anxious about missing an opportunity, you’ll be glad you did things correctly in the first place.

Since retrogrades can bring back the past, you may have to deal with unresolved issues from a former relationship, perhaps settling a legal dispute, returning property or issuing an overdue apology for behaving in a less-than-dignified way.

If you’ve set things up on a faulty foundation, Saturn will demand a do-over. Retrace your steps and put in the proper reinforcements so you can build a lasting legacy. The silver lining: A promising partnership that stalled due to timing issues could come back around. Revisit with an open mind if you think there could still be magic to make!

Pluto’s retrograde is from April 22 to September 30, and it happens at roughly the same time each year. As the ruler of the unconscious plunges even deeper into your partnership zone, you might do some major soul-searching around your love life or the kinds of people you want to be around. Caution: Pluto rules the “shadow side” of human nature and there will be a strong tendency to project blame onto others.

People may behave in triggering ways that drive up buried issues. Don’t take down the messenger, even as you enforce boundaries. If you keep asking, “Why does this always happen to me?” or “Why do I always attract this type of person?”

Pluto is prompting you to look at your own patterns and blocks. Intense but worthwhile exploration—and perhaps best guided by a therapist, energy healer (here’s one of our favorites) or trained coach.

Luckily, you’ll get some lightness from the Sun’s monthlong visit to Taurus, which starts on April 19. As el Sol heats up your eleventh house of friendship, group activity and technology, your buzzing social life will help offset the intensity.

Spending time with your crew and meeting new kindred spirits will remind you that there are plenty of great souls in the world—especially if you’ve been fixating on just one person.

Passion fills the picture frame on April 29, as the Scorpio full moon beams into your fifth house of joyful self-expression, love and creativity. Come out, come out, Cancer! The spotlight could find you, drawing attention (hopefully the good kind) your way. You might issue (or hear) a heartfelt declaration of love or just feel the “spring awakening” of your hibernating mojo.

Rrowr! And don’t be surprised if others notice your flirty, frisky energy. For some Crabs, this full moon COULD come with a turbulent emotional outburst or an ego battle. Try to avoid knee-jerk reactions. Dodge the drama and channel this energy into something that makes your heart feel full instead. /TheAstroTwins
